What changed
Sharing children's data with advertisers needs separate parental consent, and operators need a written security program and retention policy. On February 25, 2026 the FTC waived consent for age-check data under strict conditions.
Who it affects
Child-directed and mixed-audience sites, and any site that knowingly collects data from children under 13.
What to do
- Keep ad trackers off children's sessions without parental consent.
- Publish a retention policy and delete on schedule.
- If you age-screen, use that data only for age checks.
